I was big fan of Abul Mogard’s collaborative release with Grand River from last year. In uno spazio immenso came out on Light-years and must’ve also impressed the organisers of Intonal in Malmö. At least, the duo are set to play this year’s 10th edition of the festival at Inkonst and various other venues around the city.
Abul Mogard is one of Italian producer Guido Zen’s many aliases and he played at last year’s Le Guess Who? festival, together with Rafael Anton Irisarri. A recording of that gig was just released on his bandcamp in January.
Grand River is the alias of Dutch-Italian artist Aimée Portioli, who is now based in Berlin. She actually has an album coming out soon on the experimental CDMX label Umor Rex. Tuning the Wind is a composition created in 2022 as an installation piece. She has since performed it several times in different countries and it has been neatly wrapped over the two sides of this LP, released today, March 7. It actually is exactly what is says: Portioli recorded many types of wind and used them as an instrument through layering and pitch adjustment.
