80s HITS: Parade Ground

RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #233

Parade Ground are probably one of the most praised exponents of European coldwave and EBM, coming from Belgium just like Front 242. In fact, they were friends and collaborators, releasing their second EP on their label Mask Records. The a-side of that 1984 release was compiled long ago by Dark Entries.

Back in 2011 Dark Entries put out a retrospective compilation of the brothers Jean-Marc and Pierre Pauly’s music, called The Golden Years. This will be given a reissue on February 27, along with a completely new package called The Hidden Side. Here you’ll find the b-sides of that same EP, as well as other 1982-89 tracks that were omitted from the first compilation. There’s also an unreleased one, called “Looking Through Keyholes”.

The group’s only album from their 80s period (they reformed again in 2007) was Cut Up, which came out on PIAS. A big label today, it actually started small in Brussels in 1984. This record was also reissued, by Other Voices in 2016.
