Jesse Garon & the Desperadoes has always been one of my favourite 80s groups from Scotland, at least since visiting the long gone Avalanche record store where Andrew Tully used to work. As a part the underground scene of Edinburgh, they shared members with other local groups like Rote Kapelle. Bass player Angus McPake also playing virtually every band (including The Thanes).
London label Precious Recordings have been doing a great job recently of releasing BBC Radio sessions from many great 80s bands including pre-Thanes group The Green Telescope. Last year they put out a 10” with the Desperadoes’ legendary Janice Long session from 1986. This one included the unreleased track ”Leave You Behind”, later covered by US group Bright Coloured Lights.
Here’s a great interview with drummer Margarita Vasquez-Ponte, by the tireless Grant McPhee.
And here’s a unique video for ”The Adam Faith Experience”, released in 1987.
