Dania and Ilyas Ahmed have both released records on the Atlanta label Geographic North. Iranian-born Dania Shihab, who’s now based in Barcelona put out Voz there two years ago and then last year a stunning LP on Ecstatic Recordings.
As Daniailyas, she adds her voice to Portland-based Ahmed’s guitar tracks. He is a member of Grails and has also worked together with Grouper. In the past, Dania has talked about growing up making music mostly in secret. Singing wasn’t really appreciated, somehow making her voice even more precious today. The 6 tracks on Enough For Me to Remain (out on Geographic North in October) deserve to be remembered for a long time to come.
