Essaira is a new group out of Bologna, Italy. Made up of vocalist Paola Paganotto, guitarist Angelo Casarrubia and Nico Pasquini (of Stromboli, Maple Death Records) on electronics, they recorded their debut single in a living room in 2023. “Dramla” eventually came out on Roma label Raw Culture in June. Analogue sounds crossover with dark electro to great effect, as you can hear on “Xirxe” below.
The group says: “Xirxe is a hymn to weirdness, to the monstrous feminine. An overturning of the vision of the woman-victim that comes to us from Greek mythology, in which courage to distance oneself from toxicity is interpreted as escape, weakness.”
