Ishtirak is a new trio from Beirut, consisting of Samah Boulmona, Jeremy Thal and Dylan Greene. They recorded what became their selftitled debut back in 2020 – a year after the massive explosion that destroyed a huge part of the city. Local label Thawra Records decided to release this beautiful amalgamation of Arabic and Western cultures – using both electronic and live elements.
The 8-track LP came out in May and the explanation behind the name is: ”In Lebanon, Ishtirak refers to that strong two-phase electricity cable that connects you to the closest privately run generator, which are usually controlled by neighborhood gangsters.”
