Bay Area songwriter R.E. Seraphin released a fine album back in 2020. Since he has shifted labels from Mt. St. Mountain to the small and local Take a Turn – with a follow-up that arrived last month. Fool’s Mate is a big pop album, but riding on an undercurrent of outsider art represented by Teenage Fanclub, The Bevis Frond and perhaps Kelley Stoltz.
On this 12-track LP he has enlisted the help of members of Chime School, The Reds, Pinks & Purples and Body Double. Yea-Ming Chen of Oakland’s The Rumours also contributes backing vocals.
