Probably named after the Godard film starring Anna Karina, Band Apart was an intercontinental duo formed long before the days of the web. The poet and performance artist Jayne Bliss started making music with Marseille-based producer M. Mader from her home in New York during the days of local no wave scene. Existing on the fringes of a fringe scene, they released their only album in Belgium on Crammed Discs in 1983.
The label had started in 1981 and is still active today, putting out a reissue called Band Apart in 2019 with the tracks from the duo’s first 12″ and most of the LP.
