The trio of Amber Sermeno, Andy Jordan and Stanley Martinez have been making music as Famous Mammals around the Bay Area for several years – releasing their debut a couple of years ago. The self-released Famous Mammals was given a European release last year thanks to Arvo Disques. The band that originally grew out of The World and Rays now bears a more striking resemblance to Children Maybe Later (one of Martinez’ recent projects).
Having scrapped the drum machine-backed Swell Maps-styled minimalism for a fully formed expressionism, they now sound more akin to outsider groups like Yeah Yeah Noh and The Homosexuals. Instant Pop Expressionism Now! came out on Siltbreeze last month.
