The Shapiros is probably not a band many people know about but they’ve always had a special place in my heart. Ever since getting my hands on the cd retrospective released by Bart Cummings’ Melbourne label Library back in 2002. At the time there seemed to be an endless number of bands revolving around Pam Berry of Black Tambourine. Glo-Worm, Belmondo, The Castaway Stones… the list goes on and on. And of course The Shapiros, formed with members of Belmondo plus Cummings while he was staying in Washington D.C. during the Cat’s Miaow era.
London label World of Echo have now given the 12 tracks recorded in a flurry in 1994 a new home on vinyl as Gone By Fall: The Collected Works of The Shapiros. The collection was released in March and followed by a new Cat’s Miaow compilation.
