RECORD TURNOVER 80s HITS #163
Pel Mel was an Australian post-punk group that formed in the mining city of Newcastle in 1979. The moved to Sydney and released two albums that received quite bit of attention. That might have had something to do with the band being signed to GAP Records, who were licensed to release Factory’s records in Australia and New Zealand. In fact they were the only Australian band on the label.
You can check out their ‘best of’ collection Rags to Tatters on their bandcamp. But in June reissue label Efficient Space from Melbourne will be releasing a set of unreleased recordings. Late, Late Show gathers the final sessions of Pel Mel, put to taped in the mid-80s. It’s a 12″ with 6 tracks all-in-all and you can listen to the opening track now, which reminds a bit of Altered Images.
