Step Ball Chain present the first full-length from Montreal’s “sapphic mixxtress” whom we have followed with interest for a while now. Maara-Louisa Dunbar used to make music as Massie Dome but switched to their own name a couple of years ago. Since then Maara has gone from clarity to clarity and The Ancient Truth is a beautiful example of an album that isn’t afraid to blend influences and lower the tempos. The 12 tracks also include some beautiful drum’n’bass moments.
