Here’s another reissue on Groovie that I’ve wanted to mention for ages. Released in May last year, this 4-track EP from Hazel Scott. Originally released in 1973 on Portuguese label Estúdio, the information about her diverges. Groovie says she was English and Discogs says South African – either way, she did release a record in South Africa in 1970 also featuring Brazilian songs.
The four songs on the self-titled EP are an amazing mix of bossanova, funk and tropicalia – I especially love “Primeiro amor”. There’s no relation to the jazz artist Hazel Scott.
