Malmö-based experimental artist 55 Cancri e has just released a new EP, via the northern Swedish noise label Mima Kass. The 6 tracks consist of many layers of sound, both electronic and acoustic instruments as well as voice. The tape is called “Jag vill inte stängas av” and is centred around the beautiful title-track overlaid with saxophone. The track and the release was inspired by the Google employee who claimed the AI-powered chatbot he was working on had become sentient earlier this year. “I don’t want to be switched off”, as the title translates, is what the chatbot said repeatedly.
