Síntomas de techno: Ondas electrónicas subterráneas desde Perú (1985-1991) is a new compilation whose name refers to a concert held in Lima in 1991, considered to be the first techno concert in the country. Local label Buh Records have done a stellar work in unearthing some of the pioneers of the Peruvian electronic underground here – a scene that appeared in tandem with the punk scene and its central group Narcosis. Several of the artists represented here were members of that group.
This 9-track set came out on vinyl earlier this month and is part of the Essential Sounds Collection, which is Buh Records’ deep-dive into the archive of avantgarde Peruvian music. I recommend reading the liner notes on bandcamp, because they’re great.
