It’s been quiet on the guest mix front for Record Turnover, but we actually asked one of our favourite mix makers Not Unloved from Glasgow to contribute one. It took a while, but now it’s finally here. As usual, they present some hidden gems like the opening track “I Wanna Be Free” (originally by The Monkees). This version is from an Epic Soundtracks anthology and features post-Swell Maps project Jacobites’ backing vocalist Max Edie. The song, that was recorded as The Lizards, was probably never released before but sounds strikingly similar to Galaxie 500.
There’s also a solo track from Honey Radar’s Jason Henn that I didn’t know about. Bobby Lee’s Origin Myths was one of Not Unloved favourite LPs of 2021, so that’s worth checking out too. The Bobby Flan 7″ on Primitive Languages is from 2019 but sounds mesmerising still. You’ll also find some local Scottish artists like Soursob, Gaming and Kübler-Ross (not the Swedish artist of the same name) here.
