I discovered Hiro Kone from New York after the release of her third album A Fossil Begins to Bray, but she actually played in my hometown in 2018. I played a track of hers when I was broadcasting on 3RRR, which feels like ages ago now. Nicky Mao – which is her real name – returned to her the Dais label earlier this year for a new LP called Silvercoat the Throng. The 8 track album sees Mao work with a more open soundscape in collaboration with a handful of other artists. It still has the sound of hissing hardware, but with a more playful approach.
