It’s been a little more than a year since San Francisco’s Cold Beat released their most recent album Mother. Thinking about it now brings back memories of a pre-pandemic world. In September their next album War Garden drops on Like Ltd. and the first single “See You Again” is a haunting pop ballad that bears no mark of the bleak times we’ve been through. Its sound is warm and yearning despite being the result of a long-distance songwriting process. Like her ex-band mate Raven from Grass Widow (who now makes music in The Green Child) Lew’s music has a certain nostalgic veneer to it.
