Melbourne-based label Al Gharib, who released the Beirut benefit compilation last year, actually prefigured the crisis in Gaza (which was a war except the media refuse to admit this). In April they released Palestine – a 35-track compilation spanning genres to raise awareness of Israel’s illegal annexation of private Palestinian land. This annexation and forced relocation of people was what started the conflict in May. All of the profits from the record go to Olive Kids who are a volunteer organisation dedicated to “improving the lives of Palestinian children in Palestine and in refugee camps within neighbouring countries”. Among the artists you’ll find Bergsonist, Varg2™, Rrose, Filmmaker, Swan Meat, Hiro Kone, Julia Govor and Hyperaktivist. It’s available as a triple-cd or digital.
