Dirk Eggermont is a producer who was active way back in the early 90s and has some success with house projects The Black Sun and Brown Hardware Inc. only to disappear from the scene. He resurfaced as Mantris 30 years later, in Mumbai where he now lives. Last year he sent some music to Brussels-based Kong DJ, who liked it so much he decided to start a new label called Souvenirs From Imaginary Cities. The name comes from Mantris’ new album, which was finally released in January. The two main tracks “Souvenirs From Imaginary Cities I” and II, are beautiful examples of ambient including musique concrète elements. I’m imagining some kind of futuristic trains, transporting people between bright open spaces. Closing track “Amber” stands out for its energetic almost-house beat.
