Portrait is an alias of UK artist Oscar B. Morgan, who currently resides in Helsinki, Finland. While he has previously released a string of EPs, Crooked that came out on Italian label Aura Dinamica last month, is Portrait’s first album – recorded while he lived in Berlin. It’s a beautiful record that employs suggestion rather than statement, blending ambient and leftfield electronics as well as haunting vocals from Danish singer Amy Horn. It takes some cues from the Blackest Ever Black label, that used to be based in Berlin – with artists like Silvia Kastel. The LP comes with a series of xerox posters of hand-drawn artwork as well as photographic prints featuring the artist’s own images shot in and around Helsinki.
