Three years ago Bongo Joe released the amazing compilation La Contra Ola, dedicated to the early 80s Spanish synthwave and post-punk scene. Now they’re back with the companion piece La ola interior: Spanish Ambient & Acid Exoticism 1983-1990. This is music from the cassette underground, which was a wild mix of ethno-trance and lofi experimentalism, but also ambient music – as this compilation shows. What they shared was “the desire to create an immersive soundscape and to combine electronic music with non-Western musical traditions”. The double-LP features Esplendor Geométrico, Mecánica Popular, Orfeón Gagarin, Finis Africae and many more.
