I first heard about the small French cassette label and radio show OKVLT last year, when they released Filmmaker’s Dimensional album. In December the compilation Tales From the Far East Vol. 2 came out. This one’s been in the making since the original 2018 volume. It includes the great Chinese duo Zaliva-D (who had a nice record out on Knekelhuis last year), as well as the Serbian artist Kӣr. While they are probably the biggest names here, there are also interesting contributions from French duo Osilasi, Amsterdam’s Eindkrak and Brussels’ Bear Bones, Lay Low. While ‘far east’ might be misleading, what most of the tracks have in common is an appetite for experimentation, within an electronic idiom but incorporating elements of folk traditions.
