Another New York group I’ve been holding out on is coldwave four-piece Bas Relief. Sadly they don’t seem to have released anything new this year, but you should still check out their demo that I recently found on bandcamp. Recorded in 2019, it contains five tracks of gloomy post-punk with distorted bass featured prominently in the mix. The line-up of bass, synthesizers and drum machine gives the group an industrial sound that sounds more 1980 than 2020, but it’s refreshing to hear a group without guitars doing this kind of music. If you like Aurat you’re in for a treat.
