New Zealand musician Alec Bathgate spent many years playing in bands with Chris Knox, first The Enemy/Toy Love and then Tall Dwarfs. Bathgate has released a few solo albums over the years but nothing since 2004. In 2009 he appeared on the benefit compilation for Chris Knox after the stroke he suffered. A few weeks ago German label Thokei released a set of instrumentals recorded by Bathgate over the last couple of years. Called Phantom Dots, it’s a record that creates imaginary melodies as the listener is let into the artist’s songwriting process. Listen to “Imposter Syndrome” featuring Hamish Kilgour on drums.
