Here’s a record I’m surprised Night School hasn’t snapped up. Instead the Welsh duo Private World released their debut LP on US label Dais. Aleph does fit in nicely with Dais vision of a world entrapped by 80s revivalists. Private World do their part in combining the brittle but yearning guitar pop of UK heroes like Railway Children and Pale Fountains with the new romantic trappings of Tears For Fears and their contemporaries. “A Private World” opens the record, with an introduction to their reverb-laden soundscape. They stay true to concept throughout, even delivering a bit of rigid Aztec Camera style funk on “Something Special”. Out on Dais since September.
