The music of secretive Dutch trio De Ambassade has been described as comfortable dystopia, and listening to their latest single “Standhouden” you can see why their mix of minimal synth and early post-punk might give rise to such words. Following their excellent album from last year, they still manage to sound like a lost classic from 1980. The single came out in July on the enigmatic Knekelhuis label and radio show, run by Mark Knekelhuis. De Ambassade is probably the defining band for a label that has maintained its unique vision for years and released great music by Zaliva-D, EYE as well as reissues.
