We wrote about post-Major Leagues project Pool Shop over a year ago and I just noticed that the Brisbane artist released debut album A Shadow in August. On this record, Pool Shop has expanded into a five-piece, with Jaimee Fryer on guitar and vocals. The production is a bit more sombre than on last year’s “Shooting Star”, something that’s also reflected be the the album’s title and cover art. Just like Moody Beach, Fryer has a penchant for a pretty melody and the arrangements are full of little hooks. I like the slower, spacious songs best, where they sound a bit less like Alvvays.
