Not many bands have come together during the pandemic, I believe. Phantom Handshakes from New York is one though, at least judging by their band name. They’re actually a duo, consisting of Federica Tassano and Matt Sklar. They’ve were recording separately in April-May and the result can be heard on the EP or mini-album Be Estranged that came out on Z Tapes in July. The video for the single “Stubborn” consists of footage from a night club in the 80s, transporting my mind to the early Strawberry Switchblade demos and the Splash One happening in Glasgow. Their sound feels more inspired by Blueboy and perhaps The Wake though.
