The Melbourne duo with the fairly anonymous name GL consists of Graeme Pogson and Ella Thompson and have been around for a few years. In 2016 their first album Touch came out, with its Italo-inspired sound that Gauci have now claimed as their own. This weekend their sophomore record You Read My Mind came out on their own label and you can tell they’ve worked a lot with the production. Maintaining the euro bass lines, GL have also added some 80s funk and boogie making them sound almost like Mildlife on some tracks. Or perhaps Paris outfit L’Imperatrice would be a better reference. The tasty single “Pistachio” is delivered over a cool breakbeat. Photo by Izzie Austin.
