Darcy Berry’s band Moth is a bit of a unique case among the Melbourne scene of punk bands. Playing with synthesizers and drum machines, they sound more like Lost Sounds or Intelligence than any Australian band. While they have the same avantgarde approach as Gonzo, where Berry plays drums – the new EP Modern Madness surpasses even them, through some of his strongest material yet. Both the title-track and “Work” have been favourites from live sets, but all four tracks are worthy of praise. Chip in a few extra dollars for the tape if you can, since all proceeds go to Pay the Rent.
