Rose Bonica is the small-town South African artist who has managed to break into the male-dominated electronic scene of Cape Town and Johannesburg – which can be read into titles like fierce the “I’m Ready But They Don’t Want Me” or “Your Mother Never Taught You Manners” on debut LP Tears For the Teamaker. The album came out a few days ago on the artist’s own label, following an impressive EP on an established SA label last year. It’s a long album that delves into experimental pop, soft synthesizers reminiscent of Haruomi Hosono as well as leftfield club sounds.
