I’ve been waiting the whole year to finally hear the Snake Valley album in full. It feels like a lifetime ago now, since the first single “New Age Slavery” first wooed the garage rock crowd of Melbourne, setting the scene for a string of celebrated live gigs. In fact, Snake Valley is one of the most energetic live acts of the city. How does it all translate into their recordings for debut LP Giddy Up!, which is out today on their own label Red Cave? Pretty well, I’d say. From the opening track and live fave “Bipolar Express” the group throw themselves from one stoner riff to another all the way to recent single “Bush Pig”. Clocking in at 25 minutes, they cram every ounce they’ve got into these tunes, complete with big choruses and punk sneer.
