Dundee songwriter Andrew Wasylyk released his brilliant album The Paralian last year and got nominated for Scottish Album of the Year. This year he has already released a self-titled EP – a pop record for fans of Nicholas Krgovich and the él Records catalogue. Earlier this month another LP came out on Athens of the North, the “premium” Edinburgh label that’s also home to Greg Foat. Fugitive Light and Themes of Consolation is the third record in an instrumental trilogy about the landscapes of Eastern Scotland. As usual, Wasylyk plays most of the instruments himself, creating a carefully crafted soundscape that is as homely as it is cinematic. This collection has a warmer sound, with a tinge of jazz in its horn arrangements.
