The Green Child is a duo consisting of Raven (from one of my favourite bands Grass Widow) and Mikey (from Total Control). It’s now two years since their transpacific debut album came out. Since then, Raven has relocated to Rye outside of Melbourne and their new album Shimmering Basset is the result. It’s coming out on Upset the Rhythm next month and the two singles “Low Desk: High Shelf” and “Fashion Light” (check out the new video) are indicative of the more organic nature this record. It retains the haphazard mix of the intimate with the majestic of the 2018 LP but adds a measure of quiet dexterity, without lofty ambitions. The sound is still Young Marble Giants via OMD, landing somewhere in the proximity of Cate le Bon.
