The first single from Sneaks’ new album Happy Birthday appeared way back in April. “Mars In Virgo” suggested a slightly more electro-leaning sound and now that the LP is finally out (since about a week, on Merge), we can cement this as a fact. Companion track “Scorpio On Your Side” is built over a groovy breakbeat and a large part of the album mingles synth-pop with trap influences. The signature bass lines of Sneaks’ previous albums have developed from funky post-punk to italo and beyond. “Faith” is the only song following the old template, with the added benefit of disco handclaps. It’s like Altered Images’ unlikely journey from “Happy Birthday” to “Don’t Talk to Me About Love”.
