Crash Material from Melbourne released their first EP last month, featuring seven tracks recorded with Max Ducker from Lost Talk. Fronted by Perry Mahoney (who also plays in New Zealand group Guardian Singles), the trio churn out dense post-punk with a healthy dose of Bad Moon Rising era Sonic Youth. Two of the tracks appeared on their live demo from last year, but my favourite is “Opia” that has bass master Siahn Davis on vocals. I wish they would record their cover of “North By North” (originally by The Bats) just because it sounded immense live. Crash Material remain one of the most unique bands on the Melbourne scene.
