Utopian are a group to my liking, not just due to the name, but the dark edge they bring to their furious punk. Their Demo tape that just came out on Urge Records (Erste Theke in Europe) is guaranteed to blow your roof off with its six tracks of perfectly arranged mayhem. Singer Sesamie powerful voice is a far cry from Sesame St and her Spanish vocal on “Tierra Ajena” is amazing. Kind of like an angrier Poly Styrene. The band is a four-piece based in Los Angeles and one of the best new bands from the city I’ve heard in a while.
