The Cool Greenhouse really had me looking forward to their first album release when they first announced it with “The Sticks” at the beginning of the year. It sounds like quite the different band compared to their first Market Square single a few years ago. Leading off with “The Sticks” and “Cardboard Man” there’s a speakable similarity to The Fall, with a London accent as it were. The rest of the album however, is incredibly inventive and with few means approaches the same kind of genius as Le Villejuif Underground. Not entirely surprisingly, Miles from Melbourne band The Shifters appears on closing track “The Subletters, Pt. 2”. The record sold out quickly after its release on Melodic a month ago, but there’s a repress on the way.
