Katy & Nick is the what you get when you combine a member of Bamboo, with a member of Es/Public Service. Well in fact, it doesn’t sound anything like you’d imagined. Their first album What I Did For You (out on Gob Nation in June) is a heady mix of 80s soundscapes and experimentalism. Created with free association techniques, the focus is very much on the textures and how each of the musical elements hang together. It’s a beautiful artefact in all its starkness, which they claim is influenced by Object Relations theory (also the title of the first Es release). Chris & Cosey feels like fitting reference, but Katy & Nick also use analog sounds to create their music.
