Pallets is a new duo from Leipzig, Germany, consisting of Thomas Schröder and Friedrich Günther. Their first album is out on tape now, available from Flennen amongst others. It’s called Double Dagger and presents the listener with 9 laid-back synth/postpunk tunes that will have you recall Durutti Column at times. There’s the odd bit of guitar noodling, such as on the Captured Tracks-flavoured “Dustbin”. May we guess that they’ve listened to The Gist or half of Les Disques du Crepuscle’s back catalogue? My favourites are the ones with melodic bass lines, like the brilliant “Green Sand”.
