Erin Violet and Joseph Thomas from Sydney make music as Dead Finks. Now living in Berlin, they’ve just released their first album on tape via Urge Records. The Urge label, which started its days as a Thirroul record store, is run by people from LA and Sydney. One of them is Alan of RRC, who also plays drums on this record. Jack from Concrete Lawn played some guitar as well, and it was partly recorded in the store before it closed. Fink Era is a refreshing mix of lofi punk, synth-pop and instrumental drones. My favourite track is “Cheerleader” which sounds like a lost Factory Records 45, circa 1984. I just wish they’d gotten Peter Saville to design the cover.
