Today Polyester Records closed its store after almost 40 years of operating out of Brunswick. The first time I visited the store was in 2009 and in the past week I’ve been in and out of the store many times. Leading up to unlucky closing date Friday 13th, they’ve organized a string of instore performances that will surely get legendary. With the likes of Vertigo, Civic, Body Maintenance and Sarah Mary Chadwick it’s been something to behold. Sad of course, but also festive and representative of the Melbourne music community.
Polyester was also a label for a bit, here’s the first single they ever put out. Little Murders was the city’s finest mod revival band and are still going to this date. It’s only a few weeks ago since they played at The Tote. “100 Drugs” came out the same year I was born.
