The third album from Maria Rossi’s Cucina Povera project is coming out on a few weeks time on Night School. Born in Finland and based in Glasgow, she continues to enthral on Tyyni. It’s a Finnish word referring to still, serene weather. Listen to the first track “Salvia Salvatrix” and it’s already clear that we can expect a slightly harsher sound than on her previous releases. This is experimental electronic music that fares unusually well with its vocal counterpoint, which remains at the centre of Rossi’s sound. The album cover is definitely one of my faves from 2020 so far.
