New Zealand-based experimental folk artist Jazmine Mary is visiting Australia this week, so what could be more fitting that listening to “We Like to Party” and getting in the mood for a depressing valentine’s day? The single was released by Mary in November and is the first follow-up to her brilliant record Snakes At Night. That was her first album, following a string of EPs that only appeared on her bandcamp. Song titles like “Suicide Town” and “Glass Happiness” speak their clear language and fans of Grouper would probably nod approvingly. Naturally I also think of Jasmine Star, whose amazing 2001 album is a must-listen.
