It’s been a while since the last regular Heavy Eights album – five years to be exact. Since then The Clean luminary David Kilgour has recorded an album with Sam Hunt and spent some time working on his latest effort Bobbie’s a Girl. It’s definitely an album that has the sound of a something that’s taken a few years to come together. It’s varied in sound and the lyrics are as subtle as they are thoughtful. “Swan Loop” relies mostly on the piano/guitar interplay in a way that reminds me of The Dirty Three. Where End Times Undone from 2015 was big, fleshed-out and full of grandeur – this collection sounds home-grown in the way most Bats albums have done for the last 30 years. Get it from Merge.
