Australian postpunk group EXEK have made friends with N0V3L from Canada and released a split-7″ together. Both bands have released fine albums this year. While N0V3L’s self-titled album is heavily indebted to Josef K, their track on the new split is a bit more experimental. “Violent and Paranoid” adds a heavy layer of keyboards as it stretches over four minutes. The EXEK track “Lottery of Inheritance” feels like a natural continuation of their Some Beautiful Species Left and the more accessible album tracks like “Unetiquetted”.
