Merge is a label that I’ve largely forgotten except for the odd Magnetic Fields record. But in Gauche they’ve found a very promising band, based in Washington DC. Within their ranks they have members of Priests and Downtown Boys, and they released an EP a few years ago. Most of those tracks have been re-recorded for the album, with help from members of Parquet Courts and Ex Hex. The rest of the tracks are new, making up A People’s History of Gauche. Perhaps the best thing about this album, is how much it sounds like The B-52’s at times.
