I’ve been eagerly awaiting new music from Charles Moothart’s latest project CFM. Now it’s here. Soundtrack to an Empty Room came out on In the Red recently, and it’s really raw record. While there are still songs featuring the wall-of-guitars sound known from his work in Fuzz/Ty Segall and the group’s previous record – there’s also a more stripped-down studio approach here. If anything it harks back to his surf-punk days in Charlie & the Moonhearts (which later became the much heavier Moonhearts). This makes for a very enjoyable listen.
