Australian beach bums Babe Rainbow have returned with what is by far their best work. After the rather lofi debut album and last year’s pop-psych oddity Double Rainbow, Today feels like an ambitious release that approaches the sonic landscapes of greats like Stereolab, Dungen and L’Eclair. It has a lot of analog warmth, acoustic guitars and fluid beats that will remind you of fellow aussies Bananagun. The 9-minute opus “Electrocuted” will certainly have been to the liking of their Australian label Flightless, as it sounds a lot like Gizzard’s jazzier moments.
